I need that to be as similar as possible to the deployment system, otherwise I will spend half my life debugging things which work fine on the new software on the test server but mysteriously don't work on the older deployment system.Īnd I have already tried installing in various compatibility modes as per previous post. The reason I need to keep running SS2008 on my local machine is because Also the web site spark license is time limited and non-upgradable.
#Ms sql studio 2008 upgrade
I simply can't justify the upgrade cost, particularly as for my purposes 2008 does everything I need and more.
Unfortunately I do not have the budget to upgrade the web server to use a newer version of SS - it is part of the Microsoft Web Site Spark programme (sadly now discontinued) where I got a really good deal on using SS2008 on a dedicated web server. Apologies for the delay responding - I've been away on holiday.
Maybe there is a problem with fully registering. net versions and appear using the first two to have every possible version but the command prompt method only finds 4.0. In trying to assess what version of each release I have I have tried the Windows Explorer, the Registry and the command prompt net 2 and 3.5 and neither produce any dialogue messages or appear to do anything. Slipstreaming produces the same fail message at the same point.
#Ms sql studio 2008 install
I can't get it to install correctly from the installation media, it fails about 90% of the way through and SP4 won't install over a failed initial installation. It doesn't actually help deal with the installation failure issues once Has anyone else got SS2008 working on W10 and, if so, how did you do it please?Īs it happens I had found this article previously - unfortunately all it does is take you through the steps to get past the compatibility check issues and into the installation proper. I have bought SS2014 Developer so could probably install that and run it, but if possible want to mirror the web server installation which won't be changed from 2008 in the foreseeable future. I have tried slipstreaming the installation media with SP4 to see if that works. I have tried checking that ASP.NET 3.5 is installed - it is. I am just using the VMs as proof of concept.
However, I also have a physical PC box currently running W7 Pro/SS2008 and it is this installation which will ultimately need upgrading.
#Ms sql studio 2008 pro
Virtualbox VM in my Mac, which is the same way I am running W7 Pro and SS2008. It installs SSMS so I can manage the remote server, but with no local database that I can use to back up to. My web server uses this version so I want to replicate its installation on my local machine to serve as backup - at the moment it runs happily (SS2008 Developer Edition) on W7 Pro, but I am consciousĮvery time I try to install it fails late in the install when it tries to access some registry keys which don't exist. I am trying to install SS2008 on W10 Preview without success.
